TEXTILES D' INTERIEUR PREMIERE (TIP) FAIR

BRUSSELS , BELGIUM ( 8-11 TH SEPTEMBER'06)

15th TIP exhibition in Brussels morphed itself with new venue…

For the sixth time in succession , Council repeated its participation in 15 th edition of TIP 2006 held at Tours & Taxis, Brussels , Belgium during 8-11 th September'06. Tours & Taxis is a place of history that has been regenerated to accommodate TIP exhibitors . The venue is centrally located in proximity to city centre, the commercial hub of Brussels housing lot of well known International hotels which are the preferred destination for accommodation for majority of International visitors (Buyers). Ultimately , the organizers have chosen a venue which is no doubt a convenient location for the accessibility of the visitors.

About the Exhibitors …

In terms of number of number of exhibitors TIP 2006 had shrunk about 10% as compared to previous year . It had a total of 126 exhibitors mainly dominated by the two main global players in hometextiles industry viz India & China . Exhibitors from India outnumbered that of China and each of them offering products of their specialization to the buyers thus keeping overlapping of products to a minimal. The exhibitors' profile included some exhibitors as new comers emerging for the first time into the market place while others as repeated participants who had already established and looking for expansion. Some of the Turkish exhibitors were also present in the event. Thus TIP 2006 brought together a blend of traditional and the emerging. This time the organizer had also put up a trend pavilion having collection of samples from exhibitors for the buyers review facilitating their quick access to the concerned manufacturer – exhibitor.

Council had taken up 7 booths with the following companies with an even distribution providing region wise market representation of the country's hometextiles industry :

•  M/s Aakriti Exports ( India ), New Delhi

•  M/s Adharsh Fabrics, Karur

•  M/s.Banaras Export House, Varanasi

•  M/s Co-optex International, Chennai

•  M/s Fabrication , Varanasi

•  M/s Kittu Exports, Salem

•  M/s. Rainbow Exports , Karur

Besides Council also put up an information counter offering brochures and exhibitors catalogue and other publications of the Council to the visitors.

Among our exhibitors , some of them did exceptionally well attracting many visitors to their stall . In total, our exhibitors were able to generate on the spot business enquiries amounting to about Rs.2.75 crores and book spot orders worth of Rs.11.50 lakhs Totally our exhibitors' stall attracted 130 Nos of visitors spreading across countries like USA , Norway, Sweden, Czech Republic, Greece, Turkey, Mexico, Peru , Chile, Cyprus etc.,

Messages for the Trade

•  It was observed this time at TIP 2006 that among our members' exhibits, made-ups produced exclusively on cotton could not evoke much response from the visitors .

•  On the other hand visitors were enthused by made-ups ( Table Linen, Curtains & Cushions category ) of blends like cotton and Linen , cotton and polyester . Under Bed Linen Category , products of higher thread counts like 360 and above were attracting many visitors ( Thanks to DECOSIT which contributed for the visitors of this category). This trend for the blends at TIP was well observed and the same was reported earlier by Council's official representative at TIP 2003 itself.

•  The visitors were very selective in terms of their choice of product and its material composition as it was witnessed during the event that there were good turnoutr of visitors to few stalls while others had not.

•  The visitors were very cautious in finalizing and placing the order

•  Probably the present world economic scenario more particularly with the slowing down of economy of developed countries had an impact in buyers purchase behavior .

•  Further , the present political environment all over the world with a sort of insecurity particularly with the flight travel has also contributed for the fall in visitors turnout

To facilitate a better market reach and buyers mobilization, the organizers opined that apart from their efforts in mobilizing buyers, it is also necessary for the individual exhibitors to send as many invitations ( e- tickets ) as possible to their own Buyers database.

About Decosit

Decosit is a major event for upholstery materials happening around the same time in Brussels every year . This event also witnessed a downfall in terms of exhibitors and also the visitors to an extent of almost 20% this year. This time about 3 exhibition halls were not there in their exhibitors profile . Normally, no Asian companies were allowed for participation in this event excepting 1 or 2 exhibitors who have been there right from its inception. This time as a significant development the fair authorities have granted access to about 9 Indian companies for their participation in Decosit.

The Council official who visited this event had also collected trend colors exhibited at Indigo and the same is available for reference at Council's office . The color trends predicted at Decosit are mainly of natural / earthen tones , fluorescent green, fluorescent blue, purple colors in its dark , medium and pastel tonal effect . This time again not many Jacquard designs seem to be there but designs with dobby effects , plain stripes , prints were predominantly shown as exhibits.

Conclusion:

While the exact statistics on visitors profile is still awaited , it is observed that as compared to yesteryears, TIP 2006 witnessed a fall in terms of number of exhibitors and visitors to the event as it has been the order of the day with any other International events happening around the world. However, as per many exhibitors the quality of the visitors at TIP 2006 is still very promising and assuring in nature making it qualifying for the next round
