Cluster Development Programme

In the new Foreign Trade Policy (2004-09) , announced by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce & Industry on 31st August, 2004, the handloom sector has been identified as a “Thrust sector” with a view to double India’s  percentage share of global trade within the next five years and expand employment opportunities in semi urban and rural areas.  The Govt. of India had, therefore, announced cluster development approach for the production and marketing of handloom products in which 20 clusters are  to be taken up in the first phase at a cost of Rs. 40 crore
